Community Programs

Adopt-a-Road

As a part of Keep Rowlett Beautiful, Adopt-A-Road is a wonderful opportunity to teach others about citizenship, improve your community, and have a great time! The Adopt-a-Road program provides teams of all kinds: families, clubs, co-workers, and civic organizations, the opportunity to help beautify their community by volunteering to collect litter alongside Rowlett streets. It’s an easy way for groups to help the community, prevent pollution, and receive recognition for their work. Litter is unsightly and costly to taxpayers. Volunteering for litter pick-up builds community and group pride, visibly improves your local environment, and saves taxpayer money!

What am I required to do?

  • Schedule cleanup dates at least five (4) times per year for a minimum of two (2) years

  • Filling out the Request Supplies Form at least five (5) business days before the scheduled collection date.

  • Collect litter along both sides of your adopted street or section of the street.

  • Complete and submit a Cleanup Report Form.

Don’t mess with Texas® Trash-Off/Great American Cleanup!

The Don’t mess with Texas® Trash-Off serves as Texas’ signature event for the Great American Cleanup, the nation’s largest community improvement program, held annually from March through May. The program supports efforts to clear Texas roadsides of trash and includes cleanups taking place.

Keep Rowlett Beautiful has been participating in the Don’t mess with Texas® Trash-Off/Great American Cleanup since 1998.  This is a national event to promote shared community responsibility by picking up litter.

All you need to do is organize a group of individuals, friends, families, neighbors, teammates, or coworkers.  You can clean any public area that needs attention, your favorite park, office area, school, your adopted spots, roadways, etc., or we will provide one for you. KRB wants to make sure all of our volunteers stay safe during our cleanup event and we will have goodie bags for every registered group when they pick up their supplies.

Teams will be participating throughout Rowlett  Keep Rowlett Beautiful will supply trash bags, grabbers, gloves and t-shirts while supplies last.  This is a great opportunity for high school students to earn community service hours!  Litter will only attract more litter, but as a community we have the power to change that!

Everyone wants to live, work, and play in a clean and green community . . . and it’s up to everyone to make it possible and improve the overall quality of life for us all.

Meet Our Partners

Everywhere you travel to, there seems to be some sort of plastic container or wrapper strewn on the ground. Keep Rowlett Beautiful has major cleanups within our city each spring and fall. We collect thousands of pounds of trash, mostly plastics. Plastics are becoming an imminent threat to our environment. They present a threat to our human health. Plastics break down into micro-plastics and they release a toxic chemical into our food, water source and the air we breathe. 95% of all plastics will not be recycled. EARTHDAY.ORG is pushing for a 60% reduction in all plastics by 2040.

Electronic Recycling & Document Shredding Day

Keep Rowlett Beautiful, in partnership with Life Message, successfully hosted an Electronic Recycling and Document Shredding Day at Rowlett High School. These events hosted twice every year are a testament to the community's commitment to environmental responsibility and data security.

The overwhelming turnout is a clear indication of the community's desire for responsible disposal options. Residents flock to the events to safely dispose of unwanted electronics and sensitive documents.

Through collective efforts, we managed to collect and recycle an impressive 35 crates of electronics and a staggering 16,000 pounds of paper in our first event this year.

By providing a convenient and secure platform for electronic waste disposal, Keep Rowlett Beautiful has taken a significant step towards protecting our environment and safeguarding personal information. The event highlighted the organization's dedication to creating a cleaner, safer community for all.

We extend our sincere gratitude to the volunteers, sponsors, and the entire Rowlett community for their enthusiastic participation in making this event a resounding success.

Rowlett Smart Yard Contest

Congratulations to Joe and Susan Henchal, who were recently named as the Rowlett Smart Yard Winners for Spring 2024.

Joe and Susan started their habitat journey by reaching out to the Texas Discovery Garden and learning from their leaders. The Henchal's garden has evolved over the years from their eagerness to learn and passion for pollinators. In their oasis you will come across a buzzing colony of bees, several butterfly species across their lifecycle, multiple home composts, three rain barrels, and a vast number of native Texas plants.

Thank you for your outstanding efforts to build a pollinator-and-environmentally friendly garden!
